ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
We are committed to sustainable living and protecting our environment
What we are doing
- Being vegetarian – food production is less resource intensive than rearing animals for meat.
- Catering well for Vegans whose choice of food is the least damanging to the environment.
- Organic Gardening – growing vegetables, herbs, fruit trees and flowers for ourselves and our guests, whilst encouraging wildlife and feeding the birds
- Composting - for free garden compost and reducing rubbish.
- Pre-cyling - Choosing products with less packaging – to reduce rubbish.
- Using re-cycled toilet paper and one-ply paper napkins (less paper wastage).
- Buying from local suppliers (whenever possible) - to reduce transport in delivery.
- Recycling– glass, paper, plastic milk containers and aluminium & tin cans.
- Encouraging walking – by providing local maps for our guests, bus timetables, packed lunches and drying facilities. A walking holiday is less demanding on the environment than touring/sight seeing by car.
- Replacing light bulbs with energy-saving ones wherever possible.
- Using cloth bags for shopping – reduces the amount of plastic going into landfills.
- Supporting the Ramshaugh Wood Project to encourage Red Squirrels.
- 2007 - (Nov) switched to 100% green energy supplied by Good Energy
- 2007 - (Nov) started to use soap nuts for some laundry washing
- 2007 - (Nov) started to use Enjo microrfibre cleaning cloths to reduce the use of cleaning liquids.
- 2007 - (Nov) sitting room dry-lined to improve insulation, saving on oil for heating
What We Plan To Do
- Develop the garden to include more flowers and shrubs attractive to wildlife.
- Continually monitor our activities and take every opportunity to reduce our impact on the planet.
What our guests can do
- Turn off lights and heaters when you leave your room.
- Showers use less water than baths. That beautiful big bath was here when we came and please enjoy it, but, can we suggest you share it?
- Leave any unused towels folded and separate to avoid unnecessary laundry.
- Give us feedback.Tell us what you like about us and where we can improve.
- Contribute to the squirrel project
